What is Recovery?

Recovery is best understood as being about a person wanting to live a life of their own choosing to achieve self-determined goals, dreams and ambitions such as encompassing  a good quality of life, ability to manage their own lives, with stronger relationships, a greater sense of purpose, needed for living and working, improved chances in education, opportunities for employment, and suitable housing achieved with or without the presence of a mental health challenge, and regardless of the severity of those challenges.

 

What is a Recovery College?

A formal learning environment where all stakeholders and the wider community can come together to engage in recovery promoting education based on an adult education philosophy which assists people to regain their sense of valued personhood through engaging in learning opportunities.  It is underpinned by the values of self-direction, personal experience, ownership, diversity and hopefulness Organised, structured, and relevant personal recovery education and learning is provided in a non-clinical environment providing a socially based pathway to health, well-being and a meaningful life.
